Oklahoma Summer Fun in the Sun

Posted by Rachel Meinke on 06/28/2015

So here we are at the start of another Oklahoma summer. That can be a mixed blessing. Lazy days and travel are the good parts. But the searing sun and the pollen counts are the not so good parts. Here are a couple of shocking facts: the Asthma & Allergy Foundation of America ranks Oklahoma City as the third most challenging U.S. Capital to live in with spring allergies. Also, the American Academy of Dermatology says one in five Americans will develop skin cancer. We’ve got two distinguished doctors with us today to help us stay safe in the sun, and quit sneezing & sniffling. Dr. Warren Filley is a distinguished physician with the Oklahoma Allergy & Asthma Clinic and Dr. Pam Allen is medical director at the OU Health Sciences Center Department of Dermatology. LISTEN NOW

We’re jumping into summer today and Nathan Gunter, the managing editor of Oklahoma Today magazine is here in The Living Room. He’s about to get us all excited about exploring Oklahoma. And believe me, he’s the one who can do it! Recently, he hopped into his Jeep with photographer, James Pratt, and traveled Highway 3 from one end of the state to the other: 6 days, 19 counties, 600 plus miles......LISTEN NOW

Until next time in The Living Room - we’ll leave you with a neat observation from country superstar Kenny Chesney. He says, “It’s a smile, it’s a kiss, it’s a sip of wine. It’s summer.” Right on the money, don’t you think? So...wear your sunscreen and go exploring!
