September 2014
It’s that time of year again - school is back in session.
LISTEN NOW - Program 401 - Back to School Excitment

Right now, at a brand new building in the heart of downtown Oklahoma City, back to school excitement is at its peak! It’s all because of the opening of the John Rex Charter Elementary School. This one of a kind concept is the crowning achievement of the Maps for Kids program, and the first of its kind for the Oklahoma City Public School District.  LISTEN NOW
Terri White, Kelly Dyer Fry, Ted Streuli and Gerry Bonds
Our guests are Former Oklahoma City Mayor and Maps for Kids Trailblazer, Kirk Humphreys and Dr. Joe Pierce, whose title is head of school for John Rex Charter Elementary.

With all the excitement in downtown around the opening of the new school, how are Oklahoma City inner city schools overcoming great obstacles on their path to success? Guests Dr. Bryan Duke, Assistant Dean and Director of Educator Preparation at the University of Central Oklahoma and Stacy Garcia, a science teacher at Oklahoma City’s Capitol Hill High School, discuss UCO's Urban Teacher Preparation Academy.

Statesman Nelson Mandela said, “Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world.”  LISTEN NOW

Support for this program is provided by the Chickasaw Nation and Governor Bill Anoatubby – who are pleased to support The Living Room with Gerry Bonds and local programming on KOSU.
